Courses
The following training is available
- OSH Training (WorkSafe Accredited)
The Collective Training Group offers the only prison specific Introductory OSH Training course available in WA. WorkSafe WA has accredited this training program and is designed specifically for prison-based OSH Representatives. All learning and assessment material is based upon the prison environment, training focuses on collaborative communication and consultative processes to help support a safe prison working environment and effective OSH Committee.Prison OSH policies and procedures are linked with current WA OSH legislation, codes of practice, Australian standards and guidance material to ensure OSH Representatives gain a comprehensive understanding of their functions and role when returning to the prison.
OSH Representatives have the choice of training provider, not the employer. Why enrol in a generic OSH course that will likely focus on the mining and construction industry when you can participate in training designed specifically for correctional staff. If you are an elected OSH Representative and are yet to complete this training, contact the WAPOU Training Officer to enrol in the next available course.

WAPOU has developed Stand T.A.L.R (Talk, Ask, Listen, Refer), an honest, raw and engaging look at the stigma surrounding mental health among correctional staff. WAPOU is determined to reduce the stigma associated with mental health among prison officers, this stigma prevents many of us from seeking the necessary professional support required if faced with the challenges of poor mental health. Stand T.A.L.R is designed to reduce this stigma and change the culture of silence among members.
