Melaleuca back in public hands

WAPOU has welcomed a WA Government decision to bring Melaleuca Remand and Reintegration Facility back into public hands, after campaigning since the contract was awarded to Sodexo in 2016. 

Officers working at Melaleuca under Sodexo had to deal with a disorganised and unsafe work environment, with the worst pay and conditions in Australia. 

WAPOU has worked with the department and government to create a safer model for the facility and will work with members to ensure a smooth transition for Sodexo workers to roles within the public sector.

The new arrangement will switch over on April 4.
