WAPOU Training Update

Stand T.A.L.R (Talk, Ask, Listen, Refer)

WAPOU’s Training Officer will be delivering our prison specific mental health awareness training Stand T.A.L.R (Talk, Ask, Listen, Refer) at the following regional prisons:

• Greenough Regional Prison – Thursday March 15, 2019
• Albany Regional Prison – Tuesday April 2, 2019

If you are on-shift and would like to participate in this training, please express an interest to your local Satellite Training Officer for inclusion.  If you are off-shift and wish to participate, please contact your Superintendent for permission to enter the prison on your day off.

Occupational Safety and Health Training

WAPOU now delivers the only prison specific, WorkSafe WA accredited, five Day Introductory OSH training course available which is mandatory for all elected OSH Representatives.  Why participate in a general course when you can complete a course written specifically for those who work in prisons.  Your place in the course is funded by the Department meaning it will not cost you anything to participate.  Our Training Officer will liaise directly with your OSH Coordinator / Business Manager to have enrolled in the course so all you have to do is express an interest directly to our Training Officer and he will make all the necessary arrangements on your behalf.  The next scheduled courses are:

• March 25 – 29
• April 29 – May 3

Delegate and Committee Training

WAPOU offers Delegates and active WAPOU committee members the opportunity to complete three days of contextualised training regarding the rights, responsibilities and functions of those roles within our prisons and our union.  If you are interested in participating in Delegate and Committee Training please contact our Training Officer and express an interest to participate in the next available course. 

Certificate IV in Leadership and Management

Our Training Officer is currently working on the release of a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, this is a nationally recognised qualification and will be tailored to the prison working environment.  Release of this certificate is scheduled for July 2019, if you are interested in enrolling in this qualification please contact our Training Officer to be included on the waitlist.
